Bullet For My Valentine - Temper Temper
In 2007, Bullet For My Valentine vocalist Matt Tuck underwent a tonsilectomy. The surgery was risky, and there was a possibility that the surgery and treatment would leave him unable to return to his duties as vocalist of the heavy-metal act. Fast forward six years: Tuck is back on vocal duties sounding as if the vocal surgery never even occured, and the band appear to be stronger than ever, letting nothing stop them in their tracks.
2013 sees the return of Welsh heavy-metalers Bullet For My Valentine, three years since the release of 2010's Fever. The album, aptly titled Temper Temper, sees BFMV powering through eleven tracks in just under forty-five minutes. Most of the songs take a slightly different approach towards BFMV's usual style, pushing itself more towards classic heavy metal than the new breed of metalcore that has been prevalent in the scene in recent years. While it doesn't necessarily work on every track, standouts "Breaking Point", "Leech" and "Riot" will be sure to get the pits moving during the band's upcoming U.S. tour with Halestorm, Young Guns, and Stars in Stereo.
Maybe this is just a new chapter in Bullet's sound, or maybe they're just experimenting. The album is good overall, but it doesn't come together as well as any of their previous records. I don't think it's because the songs are written poorly, but I felt like (with the exception of a few moments) that something was missing. Like there was some key element that just wasn't there. I'm really not sure what is. Maybe I'll have to give it another listen. Regardless, the band never disappoint in their live show, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how they produce some of the new tracks in a live setting.
