This is how you throw a rock show. Crunchy, distorted guitars busting out catchy riffs and power chords, band members that can’t stand still on stage, a lot of sweat, and at least ten people airborne the entire time. If you ever have a chance to catch Neck Deep, take it.
The UK pop-punk quintet arrived to a sold-out show at the Red House, their first ever show in California. Even The Story So Far show I saw a year ago at 924 Gilman in Berkeley now has some serious competition in terms of the “best pop-punk show” I’ve ever seen.
My ears were ringing after the show was over. Not from the music, no I had earplugs for that. It was the fact that the fans were able to sing every single word back to the band. The thing that is truly amazing about this is that the band has only been around the touring circuit for about two years. Their following is massive, and the shows definitely prove it.
The band (comprised of vocalist Ben Barlow, guitarists Lloyd Roberts and Matt West, bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans, and drummer Dani Washington) released their debut album Wishful Thinking via Hopeless Records back in January of this year. To think that they can come to a place like Walnut Creek for the very first time and be greeted with a show the way that they were is astounding and so exciting to me. Welcome to America, boys. Things are looking bright for you.
