Jane's Addicition Members Sue Vocalist Perry Farrell For Assault and Battery
UPDATE: Perry Farrell has responded by filing a lawsuit of his own against Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins. Details here.
Three members of Jane’s Addiction - guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins - have announced that they are suing frontman Perry Farrell over an onstage assault that occurred last year during the band’s performance at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion. The lawsuit was obtained by Billboard, and found to have been submitted in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025.
Last year, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins reunited for their first tour together since 2010, and marked a monumental return for the band and its original lineup. Things got out of hand during a September date in Boston when Farrell punched Navarro onstage during their set in Boston, abruptly bringing an end to the show and, subsequently, the band itself.
In the lawsuit, attorney Christopher Frost, representing the trio - wrote that “Navarro was shocked by what he would later describe as the demonic look in Perry’s eyes”.
According to the article, the event allegedly forced the band to cancel the remainder of their 33-date North American reuinion tour, thus losing out on significant profits from a deal with Live Nation. The lawsuit also claims that they have since had to repay an advance to Warner Music Group’s ADA, as they can no longer complete a planned reunion album.
The band will never have their revival tour, to celebrate a new album and 40+ years of deep, complex, chart-topping recordings,” the lawsuit reads. “Instead, history will remember the band as suffering a swift and painful death at the hands of Farrell’s unprovoked anger and complete lack of self-control.”
The trio are seeking $10 million in damages from Farrell accounting for this lost revenue, along as money for emotional and physical pain. You can view the entire article here.
Through his lawyers, Farrell has issued the following statement:
“This is yet another clear example of the group uniting to isolate and bully frontman Perry Farrell. The timing of this baseless lawsuit is no coincidence - it was filed only after they caught wind of legal action coming from our side. It’s a transparent attempt to control the narrative and present themselves as the so-called ‘good guys’ -a move that’s both typical and predictable. Just like when they released a defamatory and entirely unfounded statement about Perry’s mental health and unilateraly canceled the remaining tour dates without his input, they’re once again scrambling to get ahead of the truth in a desparate effort to save face. - Lawyers for Perry Farrell”
