On Sunday night in front of a nearly sold-out crowd, Arizona rock act The Maine performed yet another thrilling Bay Area headlining show as they get ready to release their tenth studio album, Joy Next Door. The Maine has been making the Bay Area a pivotal stop on their tours for nearly two decades now, and each show seems to be better than the last.

A stacked opening lineup was kicked off by Franklin Jonas and The Byzantines, who played an energy-filled, bluegrass-tinged set that found the charismatic frontman running through the crowd and bringing the show to the GA floor. Sets from Nightly and Grayscale followed, with the former bringing a mellower but welcoming vibe to the crowd. The three-piece act’s set was a great lead-in to Grayscale’s higher-energy set. The fan reaction was nearly as loud as the headlining set during Grayscale’s performance, as fans sang along to every word.

You would be hard-pressed to find a bad song within The Maine’s expansive songbook; the five-piece pop-rock act thrilled the Bay Area audience with hits dating all the way back to their debut, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop (“We All Roll Along”), their new album (“Die To Fall”, “Palms”, “Quiet Part Loud”), and everything in between. The show’s opener, “Another Night On Mars”, is the closing track from their sickly-sweet American Candy album, and it works just as perfectly opening a show as it does closing it. Fan favorite tracks from nearly every other album made appearances in the setlist including Pioneer (“My Heroine”, “Take Me Dancing”), Black and White ('“Right Girl”), and You Are OK (“Slip The Noose”).

It doesn’t matter how many more shows The Maine plays or how many more albums they release. As long as they keep playing them and making them, the world will be alright.
